Sergi Rachmaninov was born on 1st April 1873
and was a Russian composer, pianist and conductor. He left Russia
after the communist revolution of 1917 and settled in New York, going on to become one of
the world's most famous and influential pianists, despite
suffering from bouts of depression. As for his music, he once
said, "music is enough for a lifetime, but a
lifetime is not enough for music". He died on 28th March 1943.
