Jeremy Corbyn Autograph

Jeremy Corbyn was born on born 26th May 1949 and entered the UK parliament in 1983 as the MP for Islington North, a seat he has held since that time although there is speculation that the seat may disappear in a forthcoming reduction of seats in the House of Commons. An outspoken critic of Tony Blair in particular, Jeremy Corbyn was national chair of the stop the War Coalition and was also chair of the Socialist campaign Group; a grouping of labour MPs in Parliament that were considered to be on the left of Labour politics. He was elected leader of the Labour Party in 2015 promising a "new type of politics" however became embroiled with elements of his own party with concerns being expressed regarding his aptitude for leadership and whether his politics are sufficiently mainstream to attract support from the wider British electorate. Perhaps that question was answered in the 2019 election when Labour's vote share fell to 32% returning just 202 seats, its fewest since 1935. Corbyn subsequently resigned the leadership and the election for that role was won by Keir Starmer, his Shadow Brexit Secretary.
