Hilda Ogden was a fictional character from the long running serial drama
Coronation Street played by actress Jean Alexander.
The character disappeared on Christmas day 1987 after 23 years when
Alexander decided to quit the street after deciding the storylines were no
longer her cup of tea. Her departure was won the highest ever ratings for the programme, peaking at
27 million viewers. Jean Alexander announced her retirement in 2012, two years after her last television appearance and following an acting career spanning more than sixty years. She turned ninety years old on 11th October 2016 but died three days later in Southport Hospital.
